Bhiwandi Corporator Allegedly Caught Playing Mobile Game in Civic Meeting
A controversy has erupted over the conduct and seriousness of elected representatives in Bhiwandi after a purported video surfaced on social media showing a woman corporator allegedly playing the mobile game 'Candy Crush' during a general body meeting of the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation.
The viral footage reportedly captured the woman corporator deeply engrossed in her mobile phone while important civic matters were being actively discussed inside the civic House. After the video surfaced online, it quickly became a widespread topic of discussion among citizens, drawing sharp reactions across the city.
Many members of the public expressed anger and questioned whether elected representatives are giving adequate attention to issues directly affecting the people. Citizens and social media users also raised questions regarding the accountability of elected representatives, particularly at a time when the civic House was dealing with highly sensitive matters.
According to reports, the incident took place while the House was discussing key municipal matters, including property tax recovery and the condition of dangerous buildings in the city. The subject assumed far greater significance in the wake of the recent Kohinoor Apartment building collapse in Bhandari Compound's Gangaramwadi area, a tragedy in which 10 people lost their lives.
Against this backdrop, the alleged sight of an elected corporator playing a mobile game during the proceedings has angered sections of the public. Social media users criticised the conduct, pointing out that elected representatives are expected to remain attentive when crucial matters concerning public safety, civic revenue, and citizens' grievances are being debated on the floor.
Questions were also raised over the House proceedings by other leaders. Konark Vikas Aghadi corporator Vilas Patil criticised the alleged conduct and said that the general body meeting is meant specifically to discuss issues affecting the city and its residents. He stressed that pressing matters involving dangerous buildings and assistance to victims require serious attention from elected representatives.
