Bhiwandi Court Sentences Man to 20 Years in Prison for Raping 10-Year-Old Girl

A 53-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Additional District and Sessions Court in Bhiwandi for raping a 10-year-old girl. Additional District and Sessions Judge N. K. Karande also ordered the convict, identified as Ravi Tumma, to pay a fine of ₹5,000.
The incident took place on May 14, 2023, within the jurisdiction of the Bhoiwada police. According to the police, the 10-year-old victim was playing outside her residence when Tumma grabbed her by the hand, forced her into a room, and raped her. The convict subsequently threatened to kill the child if she reported the assault to anyone.
Following a complaint, the Bhoiwada police registered a case against Tumma under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, before placing him under arrest.
The investigation was conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Rameshwar Darade, while Woman Police Constable Vaishali Ghogre handled court-related proceedings on behalf of the police. The operational work was carried out under the supervision and guidance of Senior Police Inspector Vikram Mohite and Police Inspector Deepak Jadhav.
During the trial, Special Public Prosecutors Adv. C. B. Navale and Adv. Vijay Mundhe presented evidence and examined witnesses to establish the charges. The prosecution relied on the investigative findings and witness accounts to prove the allegations against Tumma.
After reviewing the submissions and evidence, Judge Karande convicted Tumma and awarded him 20 years of rigorous imprisonment alongside the monetary penalty. The court specified that if the convict defaults on paying the ₹5,000 fine, he will serve an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
Senior Police Inspector Vikram Mohite noted that the conviction was secured through the coordinated efforts of both the Bhoiwada police investigating team and the public prosecutors.
