Bhoiwada Police Constable Arrested in Bhiwandi for Taking Rs 30,000 Bribe

Bhoiwada Police Constable Arrested in Bhiwandi for Taking Rs 30,000 Bribe

A 46-year-old police constable attached to the Bhoiwada Police Station was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at the Karivali police outpost in Bhiwandi for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a local scrap dealer.

The arrested policeman has been identified as Rajendra Pawar. According to the anti-graft agency, the constable had demanded the money from the scrap dealer in exchange for ensuring that his commercial operations could continue smoothly without police obstruction or harassment.

The complainant, who runs a scrap purchase and sale business in the area, was allegedly approached by Pawar with an initial demand of Rs 35,000. Reluctant to pay the bribe, the businessman visited the Mumbai ACB office on August 19 and submitted a formal written complaint detailing the demand made by the constable.

Following the receipt of the complaint, the ACB initiated an official verification of the allegations on the morning of August 20. During the verification exercise, Pawar reportedly negotiated the demand, agreeing to scale down the amount and accept Rs 30,000 from the complainant instead of the initially demanded sum.

After confirming the demand, the ACB formulated an operation under the direction of Police Inspector Manoj Godse. An ACB team laid a trap in the vicinity of the Karivali police outpost on the afternoon of August 20.

At approximately 3:40 pm, the complainant met Pawar at the Karivali outpost and handed over the agreed bribe amount of Rs 30,000. As soon as the transaction took place, the ACB sleuths stationed nearby moved in and caught the constable red-handed with the bribe money.

Pawar was taken into custody immediately following the trap. The ACB has registered a case against the constable under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Officials stated that further legal proceedings are underway, and investigators are examining the full circumstances surrounding the demand, including whether any other personnel were involved in the extortion bid.
