Bihar Man Arrested in ₹10-Crore Charas Seizure Near Bandra Terminus

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) Worli Unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a suspected drug supplier from Bihar in connection with the seizure of 10.090 kg of charas worth approximately ₹10.09 crore near Bandra Terminus in Bandra East.

The initial interception took place on August 17, when an ANC team stopped an individual near Bandra Terminus. During that operation, police seized 10 kg and 90 grams of charas, valued at ₹10,09,00,000. Following the recovery, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Nirmal Nagar Police Station.

During the subsequent investigation, the arrested individual provided details regarding the supplier of the contraband. Investigators identified the suspected supplier as 56-year-old Jakir Hussain Mohammad Esak, a resident of Raxaul in the East Champaran district of Bihar.

Based on the leads, the ANC Worli Unit formed a team comprising Police Sub-Inspector Kiran Wagh and Police Sub-Inspector Rohit Salvi, along with other personnel, and dispatched them to Bihar. Working with the assistance of the local police, the team traced Esak to Raxaul in Motihari, East Champaran.

On August 23, officers arrested Esak while he was allegedly preparing to flee to Nepal. He was taken into custody to determine his role in trafficking narcotics into Mumbai.

The Crime Branch is carrying out further investigations to uncover the full supply chain, including the primary source of the charas and other individuals connected to its transportation and distribution network.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Pournima Chougule-Shringi and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudhir Hirdekar. The Worli Unit team was led by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Salunkhe, with assistance from PSI Wagh, PSI Salvi, and other police personnel.
