Biker Killed, 3 Injured in Sion-Panvel Highway Multi-Vehicle Crash

A 36-year-old motorcyclist was killed and three autorickshaw passengers suffered injuries after a speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) rammed into their vehicles on the Mumbai-bound lane of the flyover near Uran phata along the Sion-Panvel highway on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:10 pm when the speeding MUV, driven by a 61-year-old flower vendor from Thane West identified as Hemant Ramesh Thanekar, struck the motorcycle and the autorickshaw. Following the initial collision, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and hit three additional vehicles ahead before coming to a complete stop.
The motorcyclist, identified as Anand Namdev Kadam, sustained grievous head injuries in the impact. Kadam, who worked as a chauffeur and resided in Gothivali village in the Rabale area, was taken to Dr D Y Patil hospital in Nerul, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Three passengers travelling in the autorickshaw also sustained injuries in the crash. Police identified them as Ruchita Ravikant Talekar, 44, a schoolteacher residing in Nerul, along with her sister Manisha Atul Parekh, 52, and brother-in-law Atul Hasmukhram Parekh, 52, who were visiting from Gujarat. The trio was travelling from Kharghar towards Nerul when the collision took place.
All three injured passengers were admitted to Dr D Y Patil hospital in Nerul for medical treatment.
According to API Narendrasingh Girase of the CBD-Belapur police station, officers recorded Talekar's statement at the hospital. Based on her complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the MUV driver, Hemant Ramesh Thanekar, in connection with the fatal accident.
