Bishnoi Gang Demands Rs 20 Crore From Filmmaker Rohit Shetty in Juhu Threat

On Saturday morning, filmmaker Rohit Shetty received a death threat and a ₹20 crore extortion demand via a 90-second audio clip sent to his staff in Juhu, Mumbai. The threat, allegedly sent by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, comes amid a pattern of intimidation targeting the Hindi film industry, which previously included a firing incident at actor Salman Khan’s home in nearby Bandra in 2024.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch and the Juhu police are currently investigating the incident. The Juhu police are registering a criminal offence in connection with the threat.
According to the police, the audio clip contains a message from Shubham Lonkar, a fugitive and close aide of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Investigators stated that, prima facie, the voice in the recording belongs to Lonkar, and they have sent the clip for forensic examination.
Lonkar is currently wanted in two high-profile cases, including the 2024 murder of politician Baba Siddique and a February 2026 firing incident at Rohit Shetty's Juhu residence.
The threat warned that the previous firing at Shetty's home was "only a trailer" and that "the bullets will find their mark" if the filmmaker fails to pay the ₹20 crore demand.
The previous attack occurred on February 1, when five bullets were fired just past midnight outside Shetty’s residence near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk in Juhu. The Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for that shooting, which was carried out by a bike-borne shooter, Deepak Sharma, who was later arrested in Agra.
In April, the Mumbai Crime Branch filed a 1,624-page charge-sheet regarding the February firing incident, naming 15 individuals and declaring Pravin Lonkar and Aarzo Bishnoi as absconders. Police believe these recurring incidents are part of an ongoing effort by the gang to assert its dominance over the film industry.
