BMC Clears 1,800 Metric Tonnes Of Trash From Juhu Beach In 10 Days

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cleared and scientifically disposed of approximately 1,800 metric tonnes of waste from Juhu beach in Mumbai over a 10-day period leading up to July 15, 2026. The intensive cleaning drive was launched by the civic body's Solid Waste Management (SWM) department to tackle the massive amounts of trash washed back onto the shore by tidal waves during heavy monsoon rainfall and high tides.
According to municipal officials, the SWM department has been removing around 180 metric tonnes of waste daily from Juhu beach. The waste, which had previously washed into the Arabian Sea, was brought back to the shore by strong tidal waves. This recurring phenomenon significantly increased the daily cleaning challenges faced by the municipal teams working along the coastline.
To combat the accumulation of trash, the BMC intensified its cleaning operations on the beach. The civic body stated that the Juhu beach cleaning operation is being carried out continuously. To ensure the beach is cleared effectively, the department has deployed a combination of heavy machinery and manual labor.
The 1,800 metric tonnes of waste collected over the 10 days have undergone scientific disposal, according to the BMC. The continuous deployment of manpower and machinery aims to keep the popular beach clean as Mumbai experiences ongoing heavy rainfall and high tides that continue to push debris back onto the land.
The Solid Waste Management department remains active on-site to manage the daily influx of trash, maintaining the 180-tonne daily clearance rate to mitigate the impact of the monsoon tides on the Juhu shoreline.
