BMC Clears 246 km of Footpaths at 1,711 Locations Under Pedestrian First Drive

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cleared obstructions along approximately 246 kilometres of footpaths across Mumbai under its 'Pedestrian First' campaign, the civic body announced on Thursday. Enforcement action has been executed at 1,711 locations spanning all 26 administrative wards in the city.

The campaign focuses on identifying and clearing unauthorised hawkers and encroachments from pedestrian walkways. Civic officials noted that the initiative is designed to restore walking spaces and upgrade pedestrian infrastructure across Mumbai's street network.

To review the ongoing drive and plan future interventions, the civic body hosted a workshop on Thursday at the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo. The meeting brought together civic officials, urban planners, and subject experts.

Discussions at the workshop centered on strategies to strengthen the 'Pedestrian First' campaign. Participants evaluated measures to ensure footpaths remain safe and accessible, examined pedestrian infrastructure requirements, and explored initiatives to improve walking conditions throughout the city.
