BMC Clears 38 Stalls Across Andheri West, Jogeshwari and Vile Parle

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has removed 38 unauthorised stalls and cleared footpath encroachments across Andheri West, Jogeshwari West, and Vile Parle West as part of its ongoing ‘Pedestrian First’ campaign.

The civic drive was undertaken to reclaim pedestrian walkways and reduce congestion in areas that experience heavy daily footfall. Civic teams targeted multiple high-density stretches across the western suburbs where pedestrians frequently face obstructed pathways.

According to the BMC, encroachments have so far been cleared from six footpaths. The action focused heavily on the bustling areas surrounding the Andheri West railway station, the Vile Parle West railway station, and the Jogeshwari West railway station.

In addition to the railway station areas, the clearance drive covered major transit corridors. Footpaths along Veera Desai Road, Swami Vivekanand Road, and Ram Ganesh Gadkari Marg were cleared of unauthorised structures to facilitate easier pedestrian movement.

The BMC stated that the ‘Pedestrian First’ initiative is specifically aimed at clearing footpaths for walkers and easing congestion near transit hubs and commercial sectors where heavy foot traffic is concentrated.
