BMC Conducts Monsoon Cleanliness Drive at PMGP Society in Mulund East
On Saturday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Standing Committee Chairman Prabhakar Shinde joined residents and civic officials for a special monsoon cleanliness and disinfection drive at the PMGP Cooperative Housing Society in Mulund (East), Mumbai. The drive was organized to clear accumulated garbage, debris, and hazardous tree branches to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases and address public safety concerns.
During the drive in the PMGP Colony premises, civic workers focused on pruning hazardous tree branches that posed a risk during the rainy season. The team also cleared construction debris, general garbage, and various discarded materials that had piled up in the area.
To execute the cleanup, the civic administration deployed a workforce of approximately 35 sanitation personnel. The operation was supported by heavy machinery and specialized vehicles, including two dumpers, a tree-cutting vehicle, an odd-article tempo, a construction and demolition (C&D) tipper, and a JCB.
Shinde explained that the special drive was initiated because large quantities of waste had accumulated in the Mulund (East) locality. He noted that the immediate removal of this waste was essential with the onset of the monsoon. Shinde warned that leaving garbage unattended could lead to foul odors and significantly increase the risk of seasonal diseases among the residents.
Addressing the gathering, Shinde directed civic officials and staff to implement immediate preventive measures so that residents do not face any inconvenience during the ongoing monsoon. He emphasized that public health remains a top priority for the municipal corporation.
Shinde also made an appeal to housing societies and citizens for collective action. He urged housing societies to maintain cleanliness within their own premises and called on citizens to actively support the BMC's sanitation initiatives, stating that sustained citizen participation is crucial for the success of such public health drives.
