BMC Demolishes 17 Unauthorized Structures and Cuts Sewage Lines in Andheri West

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) K West Division Office demolished 17 unauthorized commercial structures and disconnected illegal sewage lines of eight establishments in the Aram Nagar, J. P. Marg, Versova area of Andheri (West) on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The anti-encroachment drive, led by Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. Ashwini Joshi, aimed to clear footpaths, improve pedestrian movement, and ease traffic congestion in the locality.

According to civic officials, several establishments in the area had encroached upon mandatory open spaces, using them as service areas and erecting unauthorized covers. The BMC team removed these footpath encroachments to reclaim public space and expand public infrastructure.

As part of the action, the BMC disconnected illegal sewage connections of eight local establishments. The affected businesses included Arbab, Barista, Soraizai, Hakim Salon, Persia Darbar, Ink N Bretto Menu, Darjeeling Leo’s Momo, and China Suburb.

During the joint operation, which involved multiple civic departments including Conservation, Public Health, Licensing, Fire, Building and Factories, and the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), officials seized various commercial items. The confiscated goods included an LPG hot plate, an electric induction stove, a storage rack, an electric oil fryer, a microwave oven, a wooden table, a commercial LPG cylinder, and other furniture.

This drive is part of a larger campaign by the BMC over the past two months to decongest heavily crowded areas. The civic body has been actively removing undocumented structures, shop extensions, hutments, and other encroachments on roads, footpaths, and public land.

The action also follows previous crackdowns, including a major anti-encroachment drive in Bandra East’s Garib Nagar in May, and another operation on Monday, June 22, 2026, which saw 17 unauthorized structures demolished in Andheri West. The Bombay High Court has also previously pulled up the BMC for its failure to address unauthorized structures on roads and footpaths.
