BMC Demolishes Unauthorised Dargah in Goregaon Aarey Colony

On Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and local police carried out an anti-encroachment drive to demolish an unauthorised dargah at Aarey Colony in Goregaon, Mumbai. The civic action was initiated after the administrators of the religious structure failed to present valid documents to the authorities and ignored prior notices.
The drive was launched specifically to address the illegal encroachment of the shrine on government land. According to local authorities, the structure had been set up without the necessary permissions, prompting the administration to take corrective measures to clear the government-owned property.
During the operation on Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and police personnel arrived at the site in the Goregaon area with heavy machinery. Bulldozers were used to pull down the unauthorised infrastructure of the dargah. The entire demolition process was conducted under tight security to maintain peace and order in the Aarey Colony locality.
The action followed a period where notices regarding the illegal encroachment were issued to those in charge of the dargah. Because no valid documents were presented to the authorities, and the notices went unheeded, the BMC and police proceeded with the demolition. Visuals from the site showed bulldozers actively dismantling the structure while security forces monitored the situation closely.
This anti-encroachment drive is part of ongoing efforts by local authorities to clear illegal structures from government lands in Mumbai. The demolition on Tuesday proceeded after the custodians of the dargah did not respond to official warnings or provide legal paperwork. With tight security in place, the deployment of bulldozers ensured the removal of the unauthorised infrastructure.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and police department have emphasized that proper documentation is required for all structures. Since the administrators of the dargah in Goregaon could not produce these documents, the demolition went ahead as planned. The area remained secure throughout the Tuesday drive.
