BMC Floats Rs 108.23-Crore Tender For New Mulund East Flyover To EEH

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has officially floated tenders for the construction of a new two-lane flyover in Mulund (East) costing Rs. 108.23 crores. The project is aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion and resolving persistent bottlenecks on the Neelam Nagar–Prataprao Gujar Marg stretch, which leads directly to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH).
According to the civic body, the new flyover will measure 780 metres in length and will have a width of 6.50 metres. The construction of this two-lane flyover is expected to be completed within a period of two years.
The primary objective of the new infrastructure is to address the severe peak-hour traffic bottlenecks that currently affect Neelam Nagar, Navghar, and Prataprao Gujar Marg. At present, motorists who are heading towards Mumbai from these neighborhoods must depend entirely on a single access road to reach the Eastern Express Highway. This reliance on a single road currently results in severe congestion during peak hours of the day.
The new flyover will resolve this issue by connecting Prataprao Gujar Marg at Neelam Nagar directly to the elevated Ghatkopar–Thane Freeway on the Eastern Express Highway. This direct connection will enable vehicles traveling from Mulund (East) to merge seamlessly towards southbound Mumbai. The connector will operate as a one-way flyover, reserved exclusively for traffic heading towards the city.
The benefits of the project are also expected to extend to motorists traveling from Mulund (West). These drivers will be able to use the existing east-west bridge to reach Neelam Nagar, from where they can access the new flyover to join the Eastern Express Highway.
Additionally, vehicles approaching the area via LBS Marg will also be able to use the new connector. A senior civic official noted that the project will significantly reduce travel time for motorists and ease the traffic congestion in the area.
