BMC Orders Orchid City Centre Mall in Mumbai Central Vacated Following Supreme Court Order
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has launched coordinated enforcement action to vacate the Orchid City Centre Mall on Bellasis Road in Mumbai Central, acting on directives issued by the Supreme Court. A joint notice has been served on the property developers, unit owners, and commercial occupants, instructing them to vacate the building immediately.
The enforcement action follows an order from the Supreme Court dated August 25, 2026, issued in connection with the fire that damaged the mall complex in 2020. The court directed that the entire building must remain shut until the developer completes comprehensive repairs and the civic body verifies that the entire structure, across all floors, is safe for movement and fully compliant with statutory norms.
Under the directives, authorities have made it clear that no person will be permitted to enter, reside in, or operate out of the premises until the competent authority formally grants permission. Notices officially prohibiting entry, use, and occupation have been posted across the mall complex by civic teams.
Prior to the enforcement drive, the BMC’s D Ward convened an inter-agency coordination meeting to organise the shutdown. The meeting brought together officials from the civic Building and Factory Department, the Building Proposal Department, and the Mumbai Fire Brigade, alongside representatives from the Nagpada Police, utility provider BEST, and the mall administration.
As part of the joint operation, the civic body has ordered the immediate disconnection of the mall’s municipal water supply and initiated proceedings against its operating licences. The building's electricity connections will also be cut, with power restricted solely to construction-related repair work.
The Nagpada Police have been requested to provide necessary security and protection during the operations to maintain law and order. The civic administration urged all occupants to comply voluntarily with the apex court's ruling, cautioning that failure to cooperate will invite strict legal measures, including forced eviction and the physical sealing of the mall.
