BMC plans underground parking beneath Rajiv Gandhi Maidan in Kandivli East

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a proposal on 14 July, 2026, to construct an underground parking facility beneath the Rajiv Gandhi Maidan in Thakur Complex, Kandivli East, Mumbai.

To determine the viability of this project, the civic body has ordered a comprehensive feasibility study. A consultant will be appointed to carry out the necessary assessments before any final decision is taken regarding the construction of the parking lot under the playground.

The move to conduct a feasibility study was initiated after local BJP corporator Shivkumar Jha submitted a proposal to the municipal ward. Following the proposal, the BMC decided to evaluate the traffic and geographical conditions of the area.

The appointed consultant will conduct a series of evaluations, including a detailed traffic study, traffic counts, and traffic simulations. These assessments are intended to analyze the local traffic flow and determine the actual need for an underground parking space in the Kandivli East neighborhood.

Furthermore, the consultant will carry out a geographical feasibility study to assess the underground conditions of the Rajiv Gandhi Maidan. This will help the civic body understand the physical viability of building a parking structure beneath the existing playground.

The BMC will review the findings of the traffic surveys, simulations, and geographical assessments before taking a final decision on whether to proceed with the underground parking project.
