BMC Receives 4,510 Registrations for 50 Gen Z Fellowship Seats in Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in Mumbai received 4,510 registrations within days of opening applications for its newly launched Gen Z Fellowship Programme, which offers 50 seats in civic administration.

The initiative, launched by the BJP-led Mahayuti-run civic body, is modelled on Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Fellowship Programme. It is designed to bring young professionals into governance, offering them hands-on exposure to policymaking, project planning, and administration while working alongside senior civic officials. The fellowship includes a 12-month tenure and offers selected fellows a monthly stipend of Rs 61,500.

Applications for the programme opened on August 19 and will remain open until August 31. Civic officials stated that applicant numbers are expected to climb further before the deadline. Out of the 4,510 candidates who registered, approximately 2,500 have submitted completed applications, and 530 have paid the required registration fee.

The applicant pool spans multiple disciplines, including law, medicine, engineering, management, commerce, science, design, and technology. Among the candidates who have paid the fee, BCom graduates form the largest group with 107 applicants, followed by 81 BE and BTech graduates, 54 BSc graduates, six BA graduates, and five LLB graduates. The applicants also include postgraduates and professionals holding LLM and MBBS degrees, with one applicant from each discipline.

The BMC has laid down 21 eligibility criteria for prospective fellows. Applicants must be graduates who scored at least 60 per cent marks, hold computer skills, and be proficient in Marathi while possessing a working knowledge of both Hindi and English. Candidates must also have a minimum of one year of full-time work experience. Relevant internships, apprenticeships, and articleships are counted toward the work experience requirement.

The administration has clarified that individuals who have previously completed either the BMC Fellowship or the Chief Minister’s Fellowship are not eligible to apply.
