BMC Sets Dec 31 Deadline for Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed Bridge

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has set December 31 as the deadline to complete construction of the city's first cable-stayed bridge over railway tracks near Mahalaxmi railway station. The new infrastructure project is designed to establish a direct link between Saat Rasta and Mahalaxmi Maidan.
Ongoing construction work on the cable-stayed bridge was inspected on Keshavrao Khadye Marg on Thursday. During the site visit, officials were directed to expedite the pending work to ensure the project meets the target deadline set by the civic body.
The bridge is being executed as part of the civic body's Development Plan works. Once completed, the entire structure will measure 803 metres in length and have an overall width of 17.2 metres. The specific portion of the bridge that falls directly within railway limits will measure 23.01 metres in width.
A key milestone has already been reached with the completion of a 78.5-metre-high pylon, which will hold up the cable-stayed structure over the railway tracks.
Work on the eastern span of the bridge, which extends 165 metres and falls within railway premises, is slated to begin soon. Construction on this specific stretch will commence once the BMC receives the required formal block from the railway authorities.
The project aims to facilitate smoother movement across the railway corridor by bridging the connectivity gap between Saat Rasta and Mahalaxmi Maidan.
