BMC to Hire Event Planner for Ganesh Visarjan Logistics at Girgaon Chowpatty
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited bids to hire a professional event planner to handle logistics and streamline Ganesh idol immersions at Girgaon Chowpatty during Ganeshotsav.
The appointed agency will be tasked with overseeing crowd management support and coordinating the line-up of incoming Ganesh idols arriving from various mandals across the city. The firm will also manage the public address system and arrange drinking water facilities for attendees.
In addition to managing the general public and processions, the event management firm will handle arrangements for visiting dignitaries. This includes laying out red carpets and designing viewing and seating layouts specifically for VIPs at the beachfront.
A civic official explained that specialized arrangements are essential for the tenth day of the festival, when thousands gather for visarjan. The arrival schedule is coordinated based on when large Ganesh idols are expected to reach the beach, as their procession routes across the city are long. Mandal organizers notify authorities of their expected arrival timings, which typically range from 12 noon on visarjan day to 6:00 am or 7:00 am the following morning.
To facilitate the physical immersion process, the BMC organizes the installation of steel plates on the sand to support the movement and immersion of very tall idols. Idols that are relatively smaller, though still measuring over six feet in height, are sent out onto boats for immersion in the sea.
