BMC to Open Rs 300-Crore Dindoshi-Goregaon Flyover by September

MUMBAI — Commuters in Mumbai's western suburbs can expect relief from traffic congestion as a new 1.2-km elevated flyover connecting Dindoshi to Film City in Goregaon is scheduled to become operational by September. Developed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the flyover originates near the Dindoshi Court adjoining the Western Express Highway and terminates at Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Goregaon.

The Rs 300-crore flyover marks the first phase of the ambitious 12.2-km-long Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. Once operational, the elevated corridor will provide an alternative route for motorists, reducing heavy dependence and easing traffic congestion on the Western Express Highway, which currently serves as the primary road link in the area.

The newly constructed flyover features six lanes, an elevated rotary or circular intersection built on a raised platform, walkways on both sides, and deck slabs. While the main construction of the bridge has been completed, ancillary works including painting, road laying, and the installation of traffic signals and signage are currently underway. The bridge was initially scheduled to open by the end of May, but the deadline was subsequently postponed to September.

From the termination point at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, motorists will temporarily continue toward the eastern suburbs using the existing road network. In future phases, the flyover will connect directly to the twin tunnels of the GMLR, which are scheduled to become operational by 2027.

According to BMC Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar, the flyover will provide a smooth east-west passageway and decongest the Goregaon-Dindoshi areas, which regularly experience heavy traffic during peak hours. Once the entire GMLR project is ready, motorists will be able to access the tunnels directly via this bridge.

The overall GMLR project is a Rs 14,000-crore high-speed corridor designed to establish a direct link between Goregaon in the western suburbs and Mulund in the eastern suburbs. The BMC has set a completion deadline of 2028 for the entire project, which aims to significantly reduce travel times between Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs.
