Body Left on Kalyan Railway Tracks for Hours Sparks Outrage Over Police Delay

A body was left lying on the railway tracks in Kalyan for nearly four hours, triggering anger among local residents over alleged insensitivity and delays by authorities.

According to available information, the body was discovered on the tracks, after which officials reportedly engaged in a dispute over whether the location fell under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan Railway Police or the Kolsewadi Police. Witnesses claimed that both units debated territorial limits rather than taking immediate custody of the body.

The prolonged delay left personnel at the site, including Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and railway porters, to manage the area while the body remained on the tracks. Local residents raised concerns over the handling of emergency situations on railway property, questioning why procedural boundaries took priority over basic humanitarian concerns.

Following hours of uncertainty, the Kolsewadi Police eventually took custody of the body and initiated further legal proceedings.

Senior Police Inspector Archana Dousane of the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) denied that a jurisdictional dispute took place. She stated that the delay occurred because the ambulance arrived late, though she acknowledged that a four-hour delay had indeed occurred.

Preliminary reports indicate that it is not yet established whether the victim died by suicide or an accident. Officials are conducting an investigation, and the exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
