Bombay HC Disposes Plea on Marathi Rule as Maharashtra Extends Deadline

The Bombay High Court has disposed of a petition challenging the Maharashtra government's Marathi language mandate for commercial drivers after the state announced a one-year extension for compliance.

The plea had been filed by four cab drivers questioning the requirement set by the state. The matter came before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad.

During the proceedings, Additional Government Pleader Jyoti Chavan informed the court that the Maharashtra government had taken a decision to extend the deadline by one year. Under this decision, autorickshaw and taxi drivers will be granted an additional year to acquire a working knowledge of Marathi.

Following the state government's submission regarding the one-year extension granted to drivers, the High Court bench disposed of the petition.
