Bombay HC Rejects Ex-Mayor Vishakha Raut's Plea Against BMC Disqualification

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday rejected a petition filed by Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator and former Mumbai Mayor Vishakha Raut, who challenged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner's order removing her from her post.

The case centers on the validity of Raut's Other Backward Classes (OBC) caste certificate. Following the scrutiny of the document, the civic administration moved to unseat her from the municipal corporation.

Raut had been elected as a corporator representing Ward 191 in the January BMC elections. Following the decision on her certificate, the civic commissioner also informed the Maharashtra state government to officially notify her disqualification from contesting elections for a period of six years.

Raut approached the high court seeking relief against the commissioner's disqualification order, but the court dismissed her plea, upholding the administrative action taken against her.
