Bombay High Court Directs CBI to Register FIR in Disha Salian Death Case
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the probe and register an FIR in the death case of Disha Salian, who died in June 2020 after falling from a residential building in Malad, Mumbai.
A bench headed by Justice Sarang Kotwal directed the senior CBI officer in charge of the Mumbai bureau to appoint an investigating officer, record the statement of Disha's father, Satish Salian, and register an FIR. The court directed the investigating officer to examine all aspects of the case, while clarifying that no person should be treated as an accused unless the investigation produces sufficient material to raise reasonable suspicion against them.
Following the court order, Satish Salian expressed gratitude to the court and stated that he believed the truth would emerge. Speaking to reporters, he said, "I told the judge I was grateful to him. I received justice thanks to all of you. Until now, I hadn't shed a single tear—not even when Disha passed away. But today, the tears are flowing."
Satish Salian said he would cooperate fully with the investigation and follow legal advice, noting, "Whatever the lawyer advises, I will do." He added that the court's order marked the first step toward uncovering the truth, expressing confidence that truth had triumphed and would continue to prevail.
Disha Salian, who worked as a manager and had represented late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Malad. Following the incident, the Mumbai Police registered an Accidental Death Report and subsequently concluded after an inquiry that she had died by suicide.
Satish Salian's lawyer, advocate Nilesh Ojha, welcomed the High Court's ruling, stating the family had full faith that the truth would come out. Ojha had alleged that Disha was assaulted and killed, prompting the plea seeking the registration of an FIR and a transfer of the investigation to the CBI.
