Borivali Police Arrest Man in Mira Road Over 1990 Cricket Umpire Assault

Police from Borivali have arrested a 55-year-old man from Poonam Residency in Mira Road (East), Thane, in connection with an alleged assault on a cricket umpire during a match in Mumbai 36 years ago.

The accused, identified as Omprakash Lalta Pasi, was 18 years old at the time of the incident in 1990. According to police, Pasi allegedly attacked the umpire with a cricket bat after being declared out during a local cricket match in the Borivali area. The umpire sustained serious injuries in the attack, and Pasi fled the scene immediately afterwards.

Following the incident, a case was registered against Pasi at the Borivali police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. He was later required to attend court hearings but repeatedly failed to appear, leading judicial authorities to declare him a proclaimed offender.

Investigators stated that Pasi managed to avoid arrest for decades by continually changing his residential addresses and contact details. Despite the lapse of time, the Borivali police kept the case active and gathered intelligence regarding his movements and personal connections.

Through technical investigation and sustained tracking efforts, the police team pinpointed his location to Poonam Residency in Mira Road (East), Thane, where they apprehended him.

Officials confirmed that the arrest was made as part of a broader effort to trace long-pending absconders who have eluded law enforcement for decades. Pasi now faces an attempt to murder charge, and further investigation is underway.
