Borivali Police File 1,100-Page Chargesheet in Train Stabbing Death Case

The Borivali Railway Police on Wednesday submitted an 1,100-page chargesheet before the Borivali Metropolitan Magistrate Court in connection with the stabbing death of 22-year-old Mayank Lohar inside a local train. Authorities have also filed an application seeking a fast-track trial and requested the appointment of advocate Ajay Misar as the special public prosecutor for the case.

The victim was allegedly stabbed to death on June 23 following an argument over keeping the door of a moving local train open during heavy rain. Following the incident, the Borivali Railway Police arrested 30-year-old Roshan Suvarna, who remains in judicial custody. On June 24, the Government Railway Police registered a case against Suvarna under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers punishment for murder.

According to police officials, the submitted chargesheet contains statements from 68 witnesses along with gathered evidence. Pandhari Kande, Senior Police Inspector at the Borivali Railway Police, stated that investigators had collected sufficient evidence and expressed confidence that the accused would be convicted.

Sunita Salunke-Thakre, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Western Railway Police, confirmed the formal application for an expedited hearing and the request for Misar's appointment. A Government Railway Police officer noted that fast-track trials are generally considered in exceptionally serious or heinous cases, or when a victim's family specifically requests an expedited process.

Advocate Ajay Misar recently appeared before a Special POCSO Court in Pune, which sentenced 65-year-old Bhimrao Prabhakar Kamble to death for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl. That crime occurred on May 1, and the fast-track trial was completed in approximately two months.

The victim's father, Ramesh Lohar, publicly demanded strict punishment for the accused. He stated that the family supports a fast-track hearing and wants the accused to be hanged or face imprisonment until death to maintain public faith in the law and deter future crimes.
