Byculla Police Arrest Delivery Man for Hurling Eggs at Mazgaon Ganpati Procession

The Byculla police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with an incident in which eggs were allegedly thrown at the Mazgaoncha Morya Ganpati Mandal arrival procession on Rambhau Bhogale Marg in Byculla.

The accused, identified as Danish Sher Khan, was taken into custody within 36 hours of the incident following technical investigation and evidence analysis by law enforcement teams.

According to police officials, the incident occurred on August 23 when an unidentified individual threw eggs from a building at the festive gathering, creating a disturbance and affecting public peace and order in the area.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Byculla police registered an offence under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita under Crime Register No. 520/2026. Authorities subsequently mobilized five dedicated investigation teams to track down the suspect across local neighbourhoods and other surrounding locations.

Police inquiries revealed that Khan works as an online home-delivery egg supplier. On the day of the incident, he had arrived at a building situated on Rambhau Bhogale Marg to complete an order delivery. While entering the premises, he was allegedly irritated by smoke rising from firecrackers being burst during the Ganpati arrival procession. Investigators stated that Khan acted out of anger over the smoke and hurled eggs at the procession.

Khan was formally placed under arrest after officials completed all prescribed legal procedures in adherence to guidelines established by the Supreme Court.

The operation and investigation were conducted by personnel from the Agripada Division and Byculla Police Station, including Senior Inspector Deepak Sawant, Police Inspectors Kiran Kharat and Sachin Shinde, and Police Sub-Inspectors Sachin Awhad, Hanuman Savase, and Ashok Narute, alongside officers from the crime detection and Anti-Terrorism Cell teams.
