CAG Criticizes Maharashtra Jal Jeevan Mission Over Faulty Planning

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has criticized the Maharashtra government over the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state. The federal auditor pointed out faulty planning and poor financial management in the execution of the key water supply scheme.
The audit findings highlight significant administrative and fiscal deficiencies within the state's execution of the program. The Jal Jeevan Mission, which serves as a crucial initiative for drinking water supply, has faced challenges due to these systemic gaps in Maharashtra.
According to the CAG, the planning phase of the mission in Maharashtra was marked by faulty processes. This lack of robust planning impacted the overall rollout and efficiency of the water supply projects, leading to administrative hurdles.
In addition to planning issues, the CAG raised serious concerns regarding the financial management of the scheme. The auditor identified poor fiscal management as a key factor that weakened the execution of the project, pointing to deficiencies in how funds were handled by the state government.
The execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission is intended to address critical water requirements across the state. However, the administrative and fiscal deficiencies highlighted by the CAG underscore the need for improved oversight and planning in Maharashtra's public utility programs.
