Catfish spotted swimming on flooded Mumbai railway tracks amid heavy monsoon rains

During the monsoon season, catfish were spotted swimming on the flooded tracks of a local railway station in Mumbai. The unusual sight, which was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media, occurred after heavy monsoon showers inundated parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall across Mumbai, Thane, and neighbouring districts, issuing weather alerts as the monsoon activity continued.
The persistent downpour led to severe waterlogging at multiple locations, submerging roads and railway tracks across the area. This flooding disrupted suburban train services and caused major inconvenience to commuters. Road traffic was also heavily affected, and local train operations faced significant delays, leaving thousands of daily commuters stranded or facing long waits at stations.
Amid the transport chaos, the viral video showing several fish wriggling through the rainwater accumulated between the railway tracks became a major talking point online. The clip left viewers both amused and astonished, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about visuals of the entire monsoon season.
Despite the disruption to daily life, the unexpected appearance of the catfish offered a rare moment of amusement for residents. Social media users shared the footage widely, responding with humorous remarks. One user on the platform X remarked, "After Japan's drains, now fish on India's railway tracks." Another user joked, "You no longer need to go to rivers, ponds, or seashores to catch fish. You can go to the railway tracks in Mumbai too...!!"
As the video continues to circulate online, the event serves as a reminder of the annual monsoon challenges faced by commuters in Mumbai and neighbouring areas like Thane, along with the unexpected moments that frequently occur during the rainy season.
