CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender Masad Seikh from Dongri in Bhadu Seikh Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested proclaimed offender Masad Seikh from the Wadi Bunder area of Dongri in South Mumbai in connection with the murder of Trinamool Congress gram panchayat leader Bhadu Seikh.

According to the central agency, the accused had been absconding since the registration of the first information report (FIR) in 2022 and had evaded both the investigation and the subsequent trial. CBI officials apprehended him using technical inputs and human intelligence.

The case stems from the murder of Bhadu Seikh on March 21, 2022, at Bogtui in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. The Rampurhat police station initially registered the case on March 22, 2022. The CBI later took over the probe on April 8, 2022, following directives issued by the Calcutta High Court.

Following its investigation, the CBI submitted a chargesheet and supplementary chargesheets in 2022 and 2023 against nine accused individuals, including Masad Seikh, before the Rampurhat court in Birbhum. The trial in the matter was subsequently transferred to a court in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal.

Following his arrest in South Mumbai, Masad Seikh was transported from Mumbai to Kolkata to be produced before the competent court handling the proceedings.
