CBI Books Railway Official, Navi Mumbai Firm Staff Over Bribery for Bills

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an offence against an Office Superintendent of North Western Railway (NWR), Jaipur, and two employees of a firm based in Nerul (West), Navi Mumbai, for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification to clear project bills.
According to the central agency, the Navi Mumbai-based company had been awarded a contract by the NWR for tower erection and optical fibre cable (OFC) laying related to signal and telecommunication work. During the execution of the contract, an employee of the firm submitted bills to the Office of the CSTE Project, NWR, in Jagatpura, Jaipur, for processing and sanction.
The CBI stated that in June 2026, the accused pursued the railway official for favourable processing of the submitted bills. The public servant allegedly assured the company representative that the bills would be cleared in exchange for fulfilling a bribe demand. During discussions, the company employee conveyed that the bribe amount would be arranged through the firm's Mumbai office via hawala channels.
Subsequently, in July 2026, the firm submitted bills worth Rs 6.20 crore for the tower erection work and further submitted bills amounting to Rs 4.70 crore for the OFC laying work, continuing to pursue the public servant for early clearance.
On August 11, the accused informed the railway official that a colleague had been instructed to personally deliver the bribe amount by travelling to Jaipur.
The CBI noted that the illicit arrangement resulted in wrongful gain to the accused persons and a corresponding wrongful loss to the Indian Railways. The agency has registered a case covering charges of criminal conspiracy, public servant being bribed, obtaining undue advantage by a public servant through corrupt or illegal means, and bribery of a public servant by private individuals and a commercial organisation.
