Central Railway Cancels 17 Trains After Landslide On Lonavala-Karjat Line

On July 6, 2026, a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall severely disrupted train services between Thakurvadi Cabin and Monkey Hill Cabin on the Lonavala-Karjat section in Maharashtra. The incident prompted Central Railway to announce widespread changes to its train operations, affecting dozens of passenger services running through the region.

The disruption has resulted in the cancellation of 17 trains and the diversion of 31 other services. Additionally, Central Railway reported 18 short terminations, 15 short originations, and the rescheduling of four train services as a direct result of the landslide.

The landslide occurred following incessant heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, which caused soil and debris to slide onto the tracks. Central Railway issued an official press release detailing the affected trains at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 6, to inform passengers of the extensive schedule changes.

Restoration work is currently underway at the landslide-hit Lonavala-Karjat section. Railway personnel are working on-site to clear the tracks and resume normal train operations. However, the recovery efforts remain highly challenging as workers battle both the difficult terrain of the ghat section and persistent rain.

With a total of 17 trains cancelled and 31 diverted, travel plans for passengers have been significantly impacted. The addition of 18 short terminations and 15 short originations means many trains will not run their full scheduled routes, starting or ending their journeys at intermediate stations. Furthermore, four services have been rescheduled to accommodate the track blockages.

Central Railway has released the complete list of affected trains to help passengers navigate the sudden disruptions. The railway authorities are focusing their efforts on clearing the debris from the tracks between Thakurvadi Cabin and Monkey Hill Cabin to ensure a safe resumption of services.
