Central Railway Mandates NOC For Construction Within 30 Metres Of Mumbai Tracks

The Central Railway issued a warning on July 14, 2026, against unauthorised construction near its tracks in Mumbai, reiterating that obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is mandatory for any construction within 30 metres of railway land. The railway administration highlighted that this directive is especially critical along its proposed project corridors in the city.

According to the railway administration, recent inspections have revealed that several buildings and other structures have already been constructed within the 30-metre limit of railway land without obtaining the mandatory NOC. The rise in these unauthorised structures has prompted the railway authorities to reiterate the regulations.

The Central Railway warned that such unauthorised constructions near railway tracks could lead to significant delays for key infrastructure projects. Furthermore, the administration made it clear that any unauthorised structures built within this zone will not be eligible for any financial compensation during future land acquisition phases.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the Central Railway stated that the requirement to obtain an NOC is in strict accordance with the Railway Board's letter dated June 25, 2015. The directive also complies with the guidelines laid out in the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR).
