Central Railway Recovers Rs 121 Crore From Ticketless Passengers

Central Railway recovered Rs 121.31 crore in penalties from 15.46 lakh passengers caught travelling without tickets or with invalid travel authority between April and July in Mumbai. Railway officials announced the figures following intensified ticket-checking drives across the network.

The Mumbai Division accounted for the highest penalty collection across the railway's network. Within the Mumbai Division alone, officials recovered Rs 49.50 crore from 7.40 lakh recorded cases of unauthorized or ticketless travel.

According to Central Railway, the intensified ticket-checking drives resulted in a nearly 40 per cent surge in penalty collections compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.

During the corresponding period between April and July 2025, Central Railway had recorded 14.42 lakh cases of ticketless or invalid travel and recovered Rs 86.73 crore in total penalties.
