Central Railway Suspends Titwala-Kasara Local Trains for Platform Work
Central Railway has suspended local train operations between Titwala and Kasara for three nights until Monday morning to execute a special traffic and power block at Titwala railway station. The infrastructure block has been put in place to carry out platform extension work required to accommodate 15-coach suburban trains, leading to cancellations and short-terminations across the north-eastern suburban corridor.
According to railway officials, the special block impacts regular suburban schedules, with several services operating on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Titwala route being short-terminated at Thane and Kalyan stations instead of running to their final destinations. Commuters travelling along the Titwala-Kasara stretch have been urged to plan their travel keeping the overnight service curtailments in mind.
Before the commencement of the night block, the final suburban service from CSMT to Titwala was scheduled to depart at 9:20 pm, followed by the last CSMT-Kasara local train departing at 9:32 pm. Rail services resumed early in the morning following the completion of night operations, with the first CSMT-Kasara train leaving at 4:19 am, the first Kasara-CSMT local departing at 4:59 am, and the initial Titwala-CSMT local departing at 5:11 am.
Central Railway confirmed that this specific operational schedule will remain in effect until the morning of September 7. The platform extension at Titwala station is part of a wider infrastructure upgrade being conducted in planned phases, with night blocks scheduled between August 28-29 and September 11-12. During this extended phase, certain local trains heading towards Titwala are scheduled to operate only up to Asangaon.
Long-distance travel has also been disrupted by the ongoing engineering work. Central Railway noted that the block impacts mail and express train schedules passing through the corridor, with departure timings altered for several services and other trains facing detentions along the route before receiving clearance to proceed. As a consequence of these operational hold-ups, several mail and express trains are expected to arrive at their destinations delayed by 30 to 40 minutes.
