Chaal Village Residents Oppose Land Survey For Proposed Taloja Abattoir

Residents, farmers, and devotees in Chaal village, located in the Taloja MIDC area under the Panvel Municipal Corporation, have strongly opposed a scheduled Friday land survey for a proposed abattoir. Alongside leaders from the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, the affected villagers submitted a memorandum to the local administration demanding that the project exercise be halted immediately.

The opposition arose after the Panvel Municipal Corporation reportedly issued survey notices without consulting local landowners or holding discussions with the community.

The proposed abattoir is planned near the Shri Swami Samarth Math and Temple, a prominent religious landmark that attracts thousands of daily devotees. According to the submitted memorandum, the project site sits at the center of several local villages, including Chaal, Ghot, Siddhi Karvale, Taloja Majkur, Bhoirwada, Gondhaliwada, and Burdul.

Residents expressed deep concerns that the abattoir would hurt religious sentiments and severely impact public health and the environment. The local community pointed out that the region is already struggling with environmental degradation. They highlighted existing issues caused by a local dumping ground, waste management facilities, and pollution in the Malang River. The villagers argued that adding an abattoir to the area would further deteriorate their living conditions and increase environmental stress.

Furthermore, residents stated in their memorandum that they have repeatedly raised civic and environmental grievances with the authorities in the past, but no concrete action has been taken. They warned that they would actively oppose the land survey if officials attempted to proceed with it as scheduled.

The memorandum was submitted to the administration in the presence of several Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, including deputy leader Baban Patil, contact chief Prasad Bhoir, and district chief Deepak Nikam, alongside local farmers and residents.

Officials from the Panvel Municipal Corporation had not responded to the allegations at the time the memorandum was submitted.
