Chandrapur District Clears Rs 57.46 Lakh For Ghodankappi Road Project

Chandrapur District Clears Rs 57.46 Lakh For Ghodankappi Road Project

The Chandrapur district administration has cleared Rs 57.46 lakh to construct a road providing connectivity to the remote hamlet of Ghodankappi. The proposed route will link Kolamguda to Ghodankappi, offering reliable access to the settlement situated near the Telangana border.

The development follows the death of a local resident, Sangeeta Gedam, who died on June 14 after childbirth when an ambulance was unable to reach the area due to the lack of motorable roads. In response to the tragedy, her husband, Tulsiram Gedam, initiated voluntary construction work to carve out a road for the settlement.

Ghodankappi is a hilly, remote hamlet comprising only 15 to 20 households. For years, the residents were dependent entirely on a rocky trail to reach the main road. The connectivity situation worsened significantly during the monsoon season, cutting off the settlement from essential services.

The local administration has sanctioned the funding for the road in two distinct stages. The first allocation of Rs 12.76 lakh was approved on August 15 under the VB-G RAM G scheme to carry out earthwork and lay a murum base.

A subsequent proposal seeking Rs 44.7 lakh for the remaining construction work was submitted to the district collector on August 17. The collector granted formal approval for the proposal on August 19.

According to an official, a concrete road has been planned for the stretch in order to withstand the difficult hilly terrain and heavy rainfall in the region.
