CIDCO Seizes 15 Dumpers in Drive Against Illegal Dumping Across Navi Mumbai
In a single-day operation on Tuesday, August 11, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) administration seized 15 dumpers caught illegally dumping construction debris and soil on acquired land across Ulwe, Vashi, Uran, Panvel, Kharghar, CBD, and Rabale. Police cases were registered against the drivers across seven local police stations following joint enforcement action by CIDCO’s security and engineering departments together with local police.
The crackdown targeted unauthorized dumping sites across multiple nodes in Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Uran. The highest number of seizures occurred in Ulwe, where five dumpers carrying waste allegedly hazardous to human health were intercepted while being brought for unauthorized dumping without treatment.
In Vashi, authorities seized three dumpers carrying unauthorized debris near the Vashi toll naka. Within the jurisdiction of the Uran police station, three dumpers were caught near DNA Marine Services on the Gavan Phata-Chirner Road while allegedly dumping soil and debris.
Operations in other areas resulted in four additional vehicle seizures. Panvel City police impounded one dumper on the service road between Kunderwahal-Palaspe and the JNPT Highway. In Kharghar, a dumper was seized near Gram Vikas Bhavan in Sector 22, while another was intercepted between Uran Phata and Killa Junction in CBD. Officers also seized one debris-laden dumper within Rabale police station limits.
CIDCO officials noted that illegal dumping on acquired land has persisted despite ongoing enforcement drives. Unauthorised dumping on vacant plots and near residential localities degrades the surrounding environment and creates public health risks for residents.
CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengde stated that the drive was specifically launched to curb the debris mafia operating in the region. Mengde warned that strict action would continue against offenders under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita without compromise, indicating that similar enforcement operations will be conducted in the coming days.
