CISF Seizes Rs 30.83 Lakh Foreign Currency From Passenger At Mumbai Airport

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, security forces successfully foiled an attempt to illegally transport foreign currency worth approximately Rs 30.83 lakh at Terminal-2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel intercepted the international passenger during routine security check procedures at the airport terminal.
The detection of the undeclared foreign currency took place during a routine screening process at the airport's Integrated Security Hold Area (SHA). While scanning the hand baggage belonging to the international passenger, vigilant CISF personnel noticed the presence of cash. Upon conducting a physical check of the hand baggage, officers recovered a total sum of 1,20,000 UAE Dirhams. The seized currency is valued at approximately Rs 30.83 lakh.
According to airport officials, the apprehended international passenger was scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Dubai. The traveller was booked to fly on Emirates flight EK-505 on Saturday.
Following the discovery of the cash, the CISF personnel immediately seized the entire sum of 1,20,000 UAE Dirhams. The passenger was detained by the security staff at the terminal.
The security forces subsequently handed over both the apprehended passenger and the seized foreign currency to the Customs Air Intelligence Unit. The customs department has taken custody of the individual and the recovered money to initiate further legal action regarding the smuggling attempt.
The swift action by the CISF personnel at Terminal-2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport prevented the illegal transit of the foreign currency, ensuring compliance with security and financial regulations at the international gateway.
