CM Fadnavis Seeks Feasibility Proposal to Extend School Nutrition Scheme to Class 10

CM Fadnavis Seeks Feasibility Proposal to Extend School Nutrition Scheme to Class 10

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday directed state officials to examine extending the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman scheme up to Class 10 during a review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. He instructed the concerned administration to prepare and submit a feasibility proposal regarding the potential expansion.

The central school nutrition initiative currently covers students from Classes 1 to 8. Under the proposed move, the meal scheme would be widened to include secondary school students studying in Classes 9 and 10 as well.

Fadnavis instructed the School Education Department and the Women and Child Development Department to coordinate closely on the initiative. The two departments have been directed to formulate a joint policy for the scheme and issue the necessary operational guidelines.

The directive forms part of a broader policy framework intended to strengthen school nutrition standards. State authorities are focusing on measures to ensure that eligible school children receive fresh, nutritious, and quality meals on time.

The instructions were issued during a formal review meeting of the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman scheme held at the Sahyadri Guest House on Monday, October 5, 2026. Official departments are now tasked with assessing the viability of expanding the program across schools in the state.
