Colaba Records 6.2 mm Rain as Light Showers Cause Incidents Across Mumbai

Colaba recorded 6.2 mm of rainfall during a 24-hour period from Saturday to Sunday, as light showers swept across Mumbai, triggering several minor rain-related incidents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) monitored the weather activity, which resulted in multiple reports of short circuits, tree falls, and partial house collapses.
The monitoring period ran from 8:00 am on Saturday to 8:00 am on Sunday, with findings released in a report on June 28, 2026. During this timeframe, the IMD Colaba observatory registered the 6.2 mm figure, indicating localized showers in the southern part of the city. In contrast, the Santacruz observatory in the northern suburbs recorded a much lower rainfall of 0.8 mm over the same 24-hour duration.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) latest monsoon situation report, the city of Mumbai recorded an overall average rainfall of 5.80 mm during this period, as measured by the civic body's automatic rain gauge network. Despite the relatively low volume of precipitation, the municipal administration had to respond to a series of localized emergencies and complaints across various neighborhoods.
The BMC’s latest monsoon situation report detailed the specific incidents handled by civic authorities. Among the emergencies reported were 11 distinct short-circuit incidents. These electrical issues prompted responses from emergency services to prevent potential hazards.
In addition to the electrical hazards, the municipal corporation received 10 separate complaints regarding fallen trees. Tree falls are a frequent occurrence during wet weather in Mumbai, often requiring clearance by civic staff to maintain safety.
The monsoon situation report also noted that authorities received complaints regarding partial house collapses during the 24-hour window. Civic teams responded to these complaints to assess the damage.
