Complaint Filed at Shivaji Park Police Station Against CJP Activists Over Friday Protest

MUMBAI — A local resident and advocate, Siddhi Deolekar, lodged a police complaint at Shivaji Park Police Station on Friday against several activists of the Cockroach Janata Party for allegedly staging a demonstration and gathering a large crowd at Shivaji Park despite the denial of official permission.
The complaint names Cockroach Janata Party leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das, and Ratna Singh, who serves as the party's legal affairs head, alongside other participants. Deolekar stated that the organisers moved forward with the demonstration and assembled a massive crowd in direct violation of police orders and court mandates.
According to Deolekar, the gathering defied restrictions established by the Bombay High Court in its judgment on PIL 116/2009, delivered on January 4, 2013, as well as subsequent orders issued by the Maharashtra state government regarding activities at the ground.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Deolekar said she filed the complaint as a responsible Shivaji Park citizen against the organisers for attempting to proceed with the protest despite an express refusal of permission and binding High Court directives. She noted that the gathering could not be classified as a peaceful assembly, describing it instead as an effort to defy the legal framework under the guise of political agitation.
Deolekar further stated that individuals who claim to fight for constitutional principles were actively challenging the authority of the Bombay High Court. She warned that permitting such actions would set a precedent allowing anyone to breach judicial restrictions, label their conduct peaceful, and expect authorities to overlook the infractions, adding that no political campaign or individual stands above the law.
The police complaint followed a protest staged on Friday at Shivaji Park by Cockroach Janata Party activists and members of civil society organisations. The demonstration was organised to oppose the Election Commission over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision exercise.
