Congress Corporators to Inspect BMC Schools Across Mumbai, Writes Ashraf Azmi
Congress corporators in Mumbai are set to visit Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation schools across the city to inspect ground-level conditions, educational quality, and student infrastructure. Ashraf Azmi, the Congress group leader, wrote a formal letter on Thursday to Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajakta Verma requesting the civic administration to facilitate the planned visits.
In his letter, Azmi urged the Additional Municipal Commissioner to issue directives to the Education Department, relevant administrative officers, school heads, principals, and in-charge officials. He requested that staff remain prepared for the visits, provide all necessary records and documentation, and extend full cooperation to the visiting elected representatives.
Azmi stated that as elected representatives, it is their responsibility to examine the ground reality within municipal schools and ensure that students receive the quality education and facilities they are entitled to. The corporators plan to conduct thorough reviews of basic amenities and classroom environments throughout the school network.
During the visits, the corporators will examine the physical condition of school buildings and classrooms, including the state of desks, benches, sanitation, drinking water access, electricity, and overall safety infrastructure. The assessment aims to identify deficits in physical provisions across municipal school properties.
The corporators will also review academic staffing levels and instructional standards. This review will cover teacher availability, current vacant posts, teacher-student ratios, and the general teaching-learning environment provided to students.
Additionally, the inspection will scrutinise student welfare provisions and academic resources. Corporators intend to verify the availability and distribution of textbooks, uniforms, and other educational materials, alongside reviewing facilities such as libraries, laboratories, digital classrooms, sports infrastructure, and ongoing municipal educational programmes.
The development follows recent school-focused initiatives in the state. On Tuesday, Maharashtra School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse announced the statewide 'chala shalet jauya' (let's go to school) campaign, aimed at upgrading cleanliness, drinking water access, teaching standards, and student-centric environments across schools.
