Congress Stages Protest in Kalyan Over Alleged Caste Discrimination Against Kharge

The Kalyan City District Congress Committee staged a protest at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Kalyan on Friday against the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The demonstration was held in response to an alleged incident of caste discrimination following a public meeting addressed by Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
During the demonstration, Congress workers performed a milk abhishek on a portrait of Kharge as a symbol of protest. They condemned the alleged incident and criticised what they described as the "Manuwadi" ideology of the BJP and RSS, reiterating their commitment to constitutional values, fraternity, and social equality.
Following the gathering at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, party workers marched to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Udyan. Upon reaching the memorial, participants paid floral tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar.
The demonstrators subsequently visited the Kalyan Tehsil office to submit a formal memorandum. In the memorandum, the party demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident reported in Haldwani, along with the identification of those responsible and strict legal action under relevant legal provisions.
Kalyan City District Congress Committee president Adv. Naveen Singh stated that the Congress party remains firmly opposed to inequality and caste-based discrimination, adding that the organisation will continue working to protect constitutional principles of social justice and equality. A large number of Congress office-bearers and party workers took part in the march and demonstration.
