Container Truck Overturns on Anjanari Ghat in Ratnagiri, Injuring Driver

A container truck travelling from Mumbai to Goa overturned on the steep, rain-soaked slopes of Anjanari Ghat in Lanja taluka, Ratnagiri district, on Friday. The accident, which took place on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, left the driver seriously injured and trapped inside the mangled cabin of the vehicle, while also causing severe traffic disruptions along the busy route.
According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the container truck while navigating the steep ghat section during a period of heavy rainfall. The heavy vehicle veered off and overturned by the roadside. The impact of the crash severely damaged the front cabin, trapping the injured driver inside.
Shortly after the accident, personnel from the Lanja police and local authorities rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation. A large number of local residents also gathered at the scene of the crash to assist the police and emergency responders.
Visuals from the accident site showed emergency workers using a JCB machine to remove damaged portions of the overturned container's cabin. The heavy machinery was deployed to safely extricate the trapped driver from the wreckage.
The accident caused significant disruption to local commuters, as traffic movement on one side of the highway was completely blocked during the rescue and clearing operations. Long queues of vehicles were reported along the affected stretch of the Mumbai-Goa Highway as authorities worked to clear the road.
The incident occurred during a period of continuous heavy rainfall across the Konkan region over several days. The India Meteorological Department had previously issued an Orange Alert for the Konkan region, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds along the western coast.
