Cop carries 72-year-old woman to safety from flooded MSRTC bus near Sarsai village

On Sunday afternoon, the Rasayani police and members of the NGO Help Foundation rescued eight passengers from a stranded Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus near Sarsai village along the Karjat-Pen Road in Raigad. The rescue operation was launched after the public transport bus broke down and became trapped on a heavily waterlogged road.

The flooding along the Karjat-Pen Road was caused by the Patalganga river, which crossed its warning level on Sunday. The river rose significantly following three consecutive days of incessant rainfall in the Raigad area, making the road impassable for the transit bus.

Upon receiving an alert that the MSRTC bus was stuck with eight passengers on board, the Rasayani police immediately mobilized. Abhijit Bhujbal, the senior inspector of the Rasayani police, stated that the department summoned members of the NGO Help Foundation to assist in a joint rescue operation to reach the stranded vehicle.

To facilitate the evacuation of the stranded travelers, emergency responders distributed life jackets to the eight passengers. This safety equipment was necessary to enable them to wade through the flooded road, which they had to traverse for a distance of about one kilometer.

Because the floodwaters were waist-deep, wading through the water was not possible for one of the passengers, a 72-year-old woman. To ensure her safety, a police officer carried the elderly woman on his shoulder. The officer waded through the deep water to carry her to a safe location.

According to Senior Inspector Bhujbal, the joint rescue team successfully guided all eight passengers to safety.
