Cuffe Parade Metro 3 Parking Facility Awaits Opening for Public Use
The covered parking facility at Cuffe Parade Metro station on Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, is yet to be opened for public use. Cuffe Parade serves as the terminal station at the southern end of the underground corridor, located within the city's southern business district.
The Cuffe Parade station includes a 4,650-square-metre parking facility constructed above the station and concourse level. Once commissioned, the site will have the capacity to accommodate more than 200 vehicles, making it the largest among the parking facilities currently designated along the Aqua Line.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has planned and provided parking infrastructure at select stations across the transit route. At present, parking facilities are operational at Aarey JVLR station, covering approximately 895 square metres for four-wheelers, two-wheelers, and bicycles, where it has seen a positive response from commuters. In addition, dedicated two-wheeler parking is available at Sahar Road station with a capacity for 75 motorbikes, while the Science Centre station provides parking space for 63 two-wheelers.
The lack of operational parking at Cuffe Parade is significant due to heavy daily commuter traffic in south Mumbai's commercial hub. The availability of dedicated vehicle parking is expected to encourage motorists from nearby neighbourhoods to shift to the Metro system rather than driving through the congested island city network.
Local residents have noted that functional parking will support broader public transit adoption. Ramesh Narayan, a resident of Cuffe Parade, stated that public transport needs to be encouraged to help ease road congestion, reduce fuel consumption, and contribute to a greener environment, adding that the parking facility at the station could further motivate commuters to use the service.
Metro Line 3 forms a major north-south rapid transit connection between Aarey JVLR and Cuffe Parade, linking several commercial, residential, and transport hubs. While designated parking zones at other stations along the line are already functional, commuters continue to await the operationalisation of the Cuffe Parade facility.
