Cuffe Parade Residents Seek Silence Zone Around GD Somani School

Residents of Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai have submitted a petition to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Traffic Police Department, demanding traffic management and the enforcement of a "zero-tolerance silence zone" around GD Somani School.

The petition, which addresses heavy vehicular congestion and persistent noise in the neighbourhood, had gathered 347 signatures as of Monday evening.

Local residents noted that the narrow road outside the school faces continuous gridlock throughout the day due to the regular movement of school buses and private vehicles dropping off and picking up children.

Laura D’Souza, a resident of the area, highlighted the daily disruption caused by the traffic.

"The road in front of the school is very narrow, and there is constant traffic throughout the day as school buses and several private vehicles come to drop the children. There is honking all the time, creating a very noisy environment in our locality," D’Souza said.

Through the petition, the residents have called on civic and traffic authorities to implement measures that will regulate vehicular movement and curb honking around the school premises.
