Dadar Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Elderly Mother to Death

A 42-year-old man was arrested by the Dadar Police on August 17 for allegedly stabbing his elderly mother to death following a domestic dispute at their flat along Bhavani Shankar Road in Dadar.

The victim has been identified as Rezina Cruz Fernandes, and the accused has been identified as her son, Edward Cruz Fernandes.

According to the police complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Priyanka Ashok Kadam, 30, of the Dadar police station, the crime came to light around 12:03 PM after the Police Control Room alerted mobile patrolling unit No. 6. A caller identifying himself as the son of Cruz Fernandes had contacted authorities to report that a woman was being physically assaulted by her son in Flat No. 415, located on the fourth floor of Ram Shyam Building in Garage Gully on Bhavani Shankar Road.

Upon arriving at the apartment, officers discovered Edward sitting on a stool inside the flat, holding a blood-stained knife. His mother was found lying nearby on a mat in a pool of blood.

Rezina was rushed to KEM Hospital for emergency treatment. Attending doctor Dr. Angel Jonto pronounced her dead at 1:25 PM.

During questioning at the scene, Edward confessed to the police that an argument over a domestic matter had escalated, leading him to assault his mother with the knife. He inflicted critical stab wounds to her chest and nose during the attack.

Following the statement recorded by PSI Kadam, the Dadar Police registered a First Information Report against Edward under Section 103(1) for murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was taken into custody, and police officials confirmed that further investigation into the case is underway.
