Dahisar Police Book Man For Cheating Parent Of Rs 9.45 Lakh Over MCA Team Selection

The Dahisar Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a 40-year-old man for allegedly defrauding a parent of ₹9.45 lakh by falsely promising to secure his son's selection in the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Under-14 cricket team. The incident took place in the Dahisar East locality of Mumbai, where the victim resides.

The complainant, Mehul Maniyar, approached the police after realising he had been cheated. Following his complaint, the police registered the case on July 1 against the accused, identified as Jitendra Chandrakant Patel.

According to the police, Maniyar and Patel first came into contact in 2023. The association began because their sons attended the same school and regularly played cricket together. During their interactions, Patel allegedly claimed that he possessed influential contacts within the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Based on these purported connections, Patel assured Maniyar that he could easily secure a spot for Maniyar's son in the prestigious MCA Under-14 squad. However, Patel demanded a significant sum of money to facilitate the selection.

Between December 2024 and July 2025, Maniyar made multiple financial transactions to Patel. These payments were processed through various channels, including Google Pay, IMPS, direct bank transfers, and physical cash.

Throughout this period, Patel continued to demand additional sums of money. He allegedly told the complainant that the extra funds were necessary to complete the final selection process and clear other official formalities. Maniyar complied with the demands under the repeated assurance that his son's selection was guaranteed.

The deception was revealed when the final MCA Under-14 team was announced, and Maniyar's son was not selected. Maniyar then confronted Patel and demanded a full refund of the ₹9.45 lakh.

In response, Patel issued a cheque to Maniyar. However, when Maniyar attempted to cash it, the cheque was dishonoured because a stop-payment order had been placed on it.

Following this, Maniyar filed a formal complaint. The Dahisar Police have booked Patel under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The police have initiated a further investigation into the case.
