Dawoodi Bohra Community Marks Milad-un-Nabi at Bhendi Bazaar
Bhendi Bazaar witnessed large-scale celebrations on Monday as thousands of members of the Dawoodi Bohra community gathered to mark Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed.
On the eve of the festival, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the 53rd leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, presided over a procession at the Raudat Tahera Complex in the neighbourhood. The event featured children dressed in colourful attire and themed displays, alongside performances by community bands that added to the celebratory atmosphere.
On Monday morning, community members assembled across local masjids and community centres to listen to a recorded sermon delivered by the late 52nd leader, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. The sermon reflected on the life, teachings, and legacy of Prophet Mohammed. The gathering also heard archival audio excerpts from a sermon delivered by the late 51st leader, Syedna Taher Saifuddin. The Raudat Tahera complex holds significant religious importance for the community as it houses the tomb of the 51st Syedna.
Speaking on the occasion, community member Husain Poonawala stated that the Prophet's teachings on compassion, justice, and humanity continue to guide community members in their everyday lives and inspire them to contribute positively to society.
Similar observances were held by Dawoodi Bohra communities across the world. Other Muslim sects in India are scheduled to celebrate the festival on August 26, while commemorations in several other parts of the world take place on August 25. The variation in observance dates arises because certain sects follow a fixed calendar system, whereas others determine the date following the sighting of the moon.
